- COMICS ORGANIZER v.1.7 (for Windows 95)
-
- -- A database for keeping track of your comic collection --
-
- ** Description:
- COMICS ORGANIZER contains many valuable features, such as quick lists of
- Publishers, Pencilers, Writers, and more. These quick lists will be build
- while you use the program, so that only the people and companies relevant
- for you are stored. It comes complete with a built-in editor and manager for
- these quick lists. This is all the documentation there is at the moment, but
- the program is pretty self explanatory. If you have any problems, please
- consult the 'History' part of this file, because there you might find the
- answer you're looking for. Of course, you should feel free to send me an
- e-mail at the address specified at the end of this document if you have any
- problems.
-
- ** Installation
- Currently it is _not_ equipped with an installation program, but since the
- program only consists of a single executable, simply copy this to any location
- on your harddisk and execute it from there. Included in this archive is a
- reg-file which you can edit with the correct location of the executable and
- then import into your registry. This will register the filetype .co as a
- COMICS ORGANIZER file.
-
-
- ** Uninstallation:
- Just delete the executable, and you're almost there. To completely remove
- it from your system you also need to delete the following entries in your
- registry:
- 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Maxximum\Comics Organizer'
-
- If you imported the included reg-file into your registry you will need to
- remove those keys as well (see co.reg for the keys).
-
- ** Version History:
-
- v.1.5 - First official release.
- v.1.6 - Added an improved options dialog.
- Added the ability to enter a sequence of issues all at once.
- Added an option to make the print out put a '-' between
- sequences of issues (for example: 1-10, 13, 16, 18-20).
- Thanks to Ben Jarrett for the idea with the sequences of
- issues.
- v.1.6a - Added the ability to add negative issue numbers (now you can
- add all the Marvel Flashback issues...).
- You can now add the following issues:
- 0, ½ (a half), 1, 2, ..., 99999,
- and to all of these you can now also add a minus sign ('-')
- and you can add a letter ('A'..'Z'. 'a'..'z') after the number
- (for example: 1E). The maximum length of the _entire_ issue
- number cannot excede 5 chars.
- v.1.6b - Fixed "Edit Issue" bug.
- Comics Organizer will now accept "No" as an answer when you
- select new.
- Now it's possible to select the font used for printing from
- the Options dialog.
- The main window is now resizable, so you can see the entire
- program screen even if you resolution is 640x480.
- Added the ability to store a "Story Title" with each issue
- (thanks to Michael Lavigne for the suggestion).
- Made the strings for the writer and penciler longer so you
- can enter several writers/pencilers separated by a ',' (the
- maximum length is currently 50 chars).
- Will convert files from Comics Organizer v.1.5-v.1.6a.
- v.1.6c - Added a new Speedbutton; The Options are now only a button
- click away.
- Fixed a minor bug: It seems that the QuickLists weren't being
- transfered when you wanted to Edit a comic, but they are now.
- Added a progress bar when printing, so you can see how long
- it's going to take (useful when printing to a file, which can
- take some time...).
- Fixed 'Add Issue' bug (if you tried to add an issue to a
- comic that didn't exist you'd get an 'Access Violation').
- Fixed 'Add Sequence of Issues' bug (if you tried to add a
- sequence of issues to a comic that didn't exist you'd get an
- 'Access Violation').
- Added a 'Select Comics...' option (in the 'Comics' menu item,
- as a popup menu, and as a SpeedButton), so that you can chose
- which comics are displayed, for instance maybe you only want
- those written by Chris Claremont, or something. If you perform
- any actions that affect the comic list then it is the _entire_
- comic list that gets affected, not just the part that is shown
- on screen!!. And of course I added an item called 'Show All',
- which - naturally - makes it show then entire list.
- New options on 'Options' dialog for 'Select Comics': 'Case
- Sensitive' so you can choose whether or not it should ignore
- the case of the letters, and you can also choose whether it
- should match the entire string you've entered or just find it
- as a substring (for instance, then you can do a search for all
- issues drawn by guys named Scott...).
- Added a menu item under 'Help' called 'The Future...' which is
- were I've written some ideas I might implement later. Look
- them over and tell me what you think...
- Merged the 'Comics' menu item and the 'Sort' menu item into
- one item called 'ComicList'. This item has the subitems
- 'Comics' and 'Issues' where you will find all the usual stuff
- and the sort options as well. Any previous references to the
- 'Comics' menu item are now invalid, and you will now find
- those items under the 'ComicList' menu item instead (maybe
- even under the subitems 'Comics' or 'Issues').
- Comics Organizer will now disable the menu items you cannot
- use at a given time, for example, it will disable all issue
- related operations when there are no comics in the list.
- Added the ability to edit several Issues at a time, for the
- generic cases (same writer or penciler). Just select all the
- issues you want to edit (by holding down CTRL or SHIFT and
- clicking with the mouse or by dragging with the mouse) and
- then select 'Edit Multiple Issues' either from the popup menu
- or from 'ComicList/Issues/Edit Multiple Issues'.
- Changed the size of the 'Additional Info' boxes so that you
- can now read the 'Story Title' without scrolling.
- Added the ability to toggle the 'Additional Info' boxes (it's
- under 'File/Options...' naturally).
- Seems that the 'Story Title' wasn't being tranfered when you
- chose to 'Edit' an Issue - it is now.
- v.1.7 - Made it a little nicer to look at when you're resizing the
- main window (just try it out, you'll see what I mean).
- Added a new Toolbar interface (thanks to Jordan Russel for
- providing me with the GREAT Delphi component Toolbar97 - it's
- freeware AND you get the source...). This Toolbar can be
- docked and undocked (just drag it around), and it can be
- hidden or shown (added a new item on the Options dialog:
- 'Show Toolbar').
- Fixed a bug: Sometimes when you removed a Comic (especially
- the top Comic, or several Comics one after another) then you
- would get a 'List index out of bounds error'. That should be
- fixed now.
- Removed the memory info from 'Show List Info' as it wasn't very
- accurate, and it only reported on the amount of heap space used.
- Reduced the amount of memory used bu this program: COMICS
- ORGANIZER v.1.6c used 2.20MB of memory; This version (1.6d) uses
- only 0.71MB - that is 1.49MB less(!!) than before (1.6c).
- Improved the speed of the lists of Comic Titles and Issue
- Numbers (this is especially noteworthy when adding a couple of
- hundred issues at once...).
- Added a Price field for the Issues.
- Added an Image field for the Issues as well - currently only
- supports .BMP files, but maybe I'll extend it later. Also
- added an item to the Issue popup menu: 'View image'.
- Some of the additions in this version has caused the fileformat
- to change, but it will still convert files from all other
- versions of COMICS ORGANIZER; It can only save in the v.1.7
- fileformat though.
- Added the ability to enter Issue numbers with a preceding letter,
- for example: 'T-4', 'A2', etc. This should then take care of the
- 'Weapon Zero' limited series by Image/Top Cow.
- Added a SplashScreen for you to look at while COMICS ORGANIZER
- loads (let me know whether you like or hate it).
-
- ** Disclaimer:
- These programs have all been tested extensively before being put on the web,
- but should some of them fail Maxximum (that is: Mads Villadsen) takes no
- responsibility what so ever...
- Beta versions available for download are programs which have not been tested
- as much as the final releases and you should therefore be more careful using
- them. They are in no way unsafe, but you never when you might have overlooked
- a bug...
- In short: It's your own responsibility, but I use these programs myself, and
- I have not experienced any problems.
-
- ** Other stuff:
- I would really like to recieve an e-mail from you if you use this program,
- and any suggestions for future improvements will be greatly appreciated (I
- can't promise I'll actually implement any of them, but I'll consider them).
